Erin Andrews was walking around in her hotel room naked, when unbeknownst to her, some cretin took a video . Worse, this cretin planned on selling the video to other cretins who would then release it so the masses of cretins on the internet would also get a glimpse of Erin’s bare body.

Of course Erin Andrews doesn’t want this and she’s enlisted the aid of an attorney to hunt down the perpetrator and stop the video from being displayed on the internet.

“She was the victim of a crime and is taking action to protect herself and help ensure that others are not similarly violated in the future,” said Michael B. Grossman, the attorney who Andrews called in to handle potential litigation.

It really does seem a shame how casual people are about just where the video content they plan on viewing comes from. Let’s face it, if the video was offered as a free download (or maybe even for a small fee), millions of web surfers would see it. The fact that a crime was commited in obtaining the video and the fact that the main participant doesn’t want it out there wouldn’t even enter into the mind of most people.

“Although the perpetrator or perpetrators of this criminal act have not yet been identified, when they are identified she intends to bring both civil and criminal charges against them and against anyone who has published the material,” continued the statement.

“We request respect of Erin’s privacy at this time, while she and her representatives are working with the authorities.”

Plain and simple, the person taking this video violated Ms. Andrews in a major way and is now a target for serious troubles from the authorities. It’s doubtful this idiot even expected the type of problems he set himself up for.

Some people on the internet already wanted to teach others a lesson about supporting this type of video. Websites were set up by hackers so that people looking for videos of Erin Andrews instead visited malicious web pages.

Of course two wrongs never make a right, but you can see where the type of frustration that would cause someone to install a trap like this one.

Let’s hope that in the future, whether a celebrity is involved or not, people would have the common decency not to film people without their consent. Then, failing that, businesses on the internet will have the common sense to refrain from publishing the content.

If not, the world wide web will continue to be a largely lawless zone where people act in a manner they wouldn’t dream of offline.
