Robert Pattinson Versus Taylor Lautner
Here’s a topic that’s been done to death. But since we’re dealing with werewolves and vampires, that isn’t quite the end. With the opening of New Moon so close, we’re bound to have more and more people choosing sides between Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
In a recent issue of the venerable Life & Style, the tabloid looks at the issue in a story called “Move Over Rob!”
Robert Pattinson obviously must feel pretty secure in his role as Twilight hero. Based to a large degree upon his charisma, Twilight was a stunning success at the box office, grossing over $400,000,000 worldwide. Pattinson is not the star of New Moon, though. Taylor Lautner takes the helm of the successful franchise playing werewolf Jacob Black.
Of course this new twist of events makes people want to compare the two stars. Rob Pattinson, as usual, appears interested in downplaying any rivalry he might have with the young American Lautner.
“I’m not the lead in the second film, Taylor is,” Robert Pattinson said. “I just have significant moments at the beginning and end. I’m more of a supporting role.”
Not only does Taylor Lautner get most of the on-screem time this go around, he also gets to make time with Kristen Stewart, Robert’s rumored main squeeze in real life.
Don’t expect the low-key Lautner to push the rivalry very hard, either. He’s just happy to get his turn in such a highly anticipated film.
“It’s a team effort, and it’s definitely about the love triangle now,” said Lautner. “Rob’s some pretty good competition.”
The differences between Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson are very striking. Pattinson is seemingly shy, whereas Lautner appears more comfortable talking about himself and meeting the public.
“Taylor’s very cool, calm, and collected,” said co-star Noot Seear. “He’s so handsome.”
No one is questioning Lautner’s dedication to his role in New Moon, which opens November 20. He added 30 pounds of muscle to his 5′10″ frame through working out five to seven days a week.
“Have you seen Taylor lately? In the blink of an eye he went from little boy to leading man,” said co-star Peter Facinelli. “He grew up before my eyes in a matter of months. It’s pretty exciting to see.”
Facinelli isn’t the only one on the set impressed with Lautner.
“He’s worked his butt off to get that physique, and Rob did not,” said Ashley Greene. “Taylor’s body is just incredible.”
The effort from Lautner is already winning him fans among the Twilight faithful. Team Jacob t-shirts are now outselling Team Robert ones.
“I would say it was 10 to 1 in favor of Edward in the beginning, then it went even, and now it’s 10 to 3 for Jacob,” said a spokesman for Kitson in L.A., which sells the shirts. “It’s because girls feel that Rob dating Kristen means they don’t have a chance.”
The switch in sentiments between Pattinson and Lautner hasn’t been lost on Hollywood, a town known for front running.
“Audiences are constantly looking for the next new thing,” said producer Mark Kaplan. “For Rob, that brooding James Dean act goes only so far. Taylor has a better shot because he’s starting out younger. He has more to prove.”
Taylor is philosophical about his success, owing his popularity to the character of Jacob Black.
“I had the impression that the fans would have loved any actor who portrayed Jacob because the character is truly nice,” said Taylor. “I’m simply lucky to be the one who has chosen.”
Okay, Twilight fans. You’re always a talkative bunch. Tell me what you think of this supposed rivalry between Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner? Which actor do you prefer?
There is no rivalry between the actors. It’s just media hype. I’m team Rob and Edward all the way. You guys in the media seem to forget the reason the Twilight books are a success is b/c – it’s the love story btwn a human girl and vampire. Meyer in the end made it about the wolf and the half-breed offspring of Bella and Edward. She lost a good number of fans with her ending btw. There’s no competition. Team Rob and Edward.
I choose Taylor. He is a lot more down to Earth than Robert is.
I’m Team Rob/Edward. Rob is more reserved but that’s what I like about him. Taylor is cute but he’s young. I don’t think there is any rivalry between them. I’m guessing that Rob likes not getting all the attention, it takes some of the pressure off him.
I’m Team Jacob, and not just because Taylor packed on 30 lbs of absolute gorgeousness. Edward (despite his huge mistake in leaving Bella) is described as “perfect.” Where as, Jacob makes many mistakes, and is more real than Edward is. He is more down to earth and really loves Bella, he wouldn’t ditch her in a forest.
There is simply no comparison…Rob ooses sex appeal without even trying and Taylor does not….a six pack doesn’t make you sexy …it is something much more…and to me Rob has it coming out his pores…. and Taylor/Jacob has none!!!!!! I am Team Rob/Edward all the way………!!!
Rob doesn’t really have any competition as far as I can see. Even when he completely takes himself out of the media limelight for months no one forgets about him. Taylor will have to prove himself in New Moon as he’s currently only riding on Rob’s popularity. The movie would have failed without without Rob’s charisma in selling the movie and his performance in the movie. You’d have had another failure on Summit’s hands without him. If and when Taylor proves himself in the movie and without the fake relationship with Taylor Swift, then I’ll buy that Rob has competition. I just haven’t seen it yet.
i dont understand why people say that TL’s relationship with TS is fake..they’re really cute together..besides, he didnt get to know her because he feels that he’s the new heartthrob or new hunk or whatever..it’s because they’re in a movie together!not because he’s using his new status as a rising star!why you people dont understand?!

There is no comparison and I agree. I was Team Jacob when I read the books, because of the character the Stephanie Meyer wrote. Taylor seems to be working hard to embody that character. That is what I find so appealing. That and he seems genuine and an all around good guy.

Team Jacob all the way, Jacob is way sweeter, and nicer, and kind and…. thers no words to describe him, hes incredible, beautiful, Hes an amazing guy! and so is Taylor, hes very talented and hot, he has the most beautiful smile i have ever seen, and his eyes always have a spark of light in them. I truly believe Taylor/Jacob is way better thean Rob/Edward. Edward wasnt the one that kept me reading the books, it was jacob, hes soo funny and wild and adventurous, hes Amazing, and Edward is just Boring, he didnt really fight for Bella, but Jacob did. Anyways no matter wat any1 sais Taylor/ Jacob is wayyyy…. better than Rob/Edward!!!
Team EDWARD!. Always and forever. Sure some of you may thing that Jacob has the abs, and is sweeter and nicer, and more kind than Edward. But think about it. Who kept the chemistry btw Edward and Bella? Answer:faith btw themselves. Plus who would you have as your boyfriend/hero? Answer:EDWARD! Anyways you might have a better shot with Jacob than Edward but, that is only because Robert/Edward has found someone that he loves and that is Kristen/Bella. Lolz, what’s with all this team jacob/taylor? Ugh, can’t believe how many shallow ppl are there in this world. There is absolutely no competition, team edward/ROBERT all the way! Have the team jacobs read the book blindly? Because it’s pretty obvious that jacob isn’t a ‘warmer/friendlier’ person. He is an immatured boy. Edward is, on the otherhand, very selfless, and far from perfect. He made a lot of mistakes too, like leaving Bella and not letting her see Jacob at first, but he did all that FOR HER. That’s how much he loves her. Don’t even talk about Rob and Tay, it’s obvious Robert is wayyy sexier/more down to earth than the media-trained arrogant Tay. Tay had said ‘Jacob is in and Edward is out’, which just shows how immatured he is, just like the character he plays. Good to know that the shallow ppl who liked Edward because he’s described as hot in the books are now in team jake/tay now.
Well when I’m reading the books I was in team Edward. But after the movie was out and I saw pattinson playing as Ed I moved to team Jacob. Pattinson is a good actor, but he’s just not good enough to portray Edward. And Taylor is a great actor, no one could play Jacob’s role better than him, Taylor all the way!
